Simply type in the domain name that you'd like and the site will tell you if it's available or not. Unfortunately it only provides you with 'unavailable' if the site you want has already been taken - I would have liked to have seen a little more detail on who owns it etc, but to be fair, if you're looking to register a domain you don't really care about the ones that you can't have.
Features of the service that they offer are email forwarding, web forwarding, control panel and so on. You also get 24/7 technical support. Registration of a name takes about 24 hours to fully propogate around the net, which is a perfectly acceptable time period. The site also offers website hosting as well, starting from £1.99 to £8.67 per month.
Pickaweb has been around since 2000, which is an eon in web terms, has a 30 day money back guarantee, instant account activation, and online tutorials. They also supply an online website building tool as well. If you already have a domain name, they do offer a transfer service as well.
I've not used the service myself, and this is a paid for review, so I can't vouch for them personally, but the testimonials on the site are glowing.
