    Photosynth demo (video)

I've not seen any references to the Photosynth demo (video) which came out recently, so thought that I'd mention it. Photosynth is a Microsoft product that can take a bunch of images scraped from somewhere like Flickr and stitch them all together, allowing for a multidimensional space with an almost infinite zoom capability, allowing users to experience images and the information contained in them in an entirely new way.

This could entirely transform the way that we look at webpages, at documents (an example is given of an entire Dickens novel laid out for us to view and zoom right into an individual word), and how space itself is transformed into information. All made possible because of social interaction and sharing of resources. (Mind you, the idea of copyright is.. well, just lets not go there right now is all that I'm saying.) This does, at least in theory, do away to an extent with the idea of having to send a car around the city streets capturing data - why not let people do it naturally and organically?

There's still a *very* long way to go with this concept, but it's worth watching the 8 minute video to get an idea.
