One TRILLION web pages!

According to the Official Google Blog there are one trillion (1,000,000,000,000) unique URLs on the web. Give or take a few. This excludes duplicate pages and pages that would lead onto infinity (such as new pages for every day in a calendar). If you want that figure another way - it's twice as many pages as there are stars in the Milky Way.

To give you an indication of growth - when Google first started indexing it found 26,000,000 pages in 1998. By 2000 this had grown to one billion. They also calculate that the number of pages is growing by 'several billion' per day. That's one heck of a rough estimate!
