Qrowd a next gen start page
As regular readers will know, I like the concept of start or home pages. While there are a fair number of these around the three major contenders are Pageflakes, Netvibes and iGoogle. There's been fuss recently over Pageflakes going into partial self destruction by putting in and then taking out advertising and being forced to reconsider. However, there's now a new contender, called Qrowd which allows you to do what you would expect - import bookmarks, feeds, widgets, create web clippings, customise native widgets using a 'visual wiring editor'. I'm going to be spending a little bit of time playing around with it over the next few days - it doesn't look quite as simple as the competition, but looks as though it's going to be more flexible.
Interestingly they have adverts but there's a $3.95 per month subscription option available via Paypal which makes a lot of sense. Oh if only Pageflakes had the forethought to consider something like that. While it's very early days yet I think that if Qrowd gets its act together and it's easy enough to use then this really could be a good alternative.

Hi Phil,
Thanks so much for the post about Qrowd!
If you have any ideas or suggestions as you evaluate the tool, feel free to post them on Qrowd's help forum.
