Back up your photos for free

If you want a quick and easy way to back up your photographs you might want to have a look at MyShoeBox which is a download product. Install it, choose the photographs you want to backup, or let the product do that for you. You can also add folders from Dropbox for example. You can arrange your photographs chronologically or by time of day, location, season and so on. You can also share galleries with your friends. Add the app into your smartphone and add your pictures to it.

If you're unhappy with the Instagram fiasco and you like to think that Your photos are yours then take a look at the linked site. It allows you to move your photographs across from Instagram to Flickr easily and quickly. For organization purposes, they will upload all photos into a "Set" titled "Instagram. Free Flickr accounts can only receive 300mb of data per month. Due to this limitation, they will only migrate your last 10,000 photos for now.

snag.gy - paste images!

This is a simple little tool. Find your image, copy it and then head over to  snag.gy where you can paste it. It will then give you a simple URL that you can link to via Facebook, Twitter and so on. You can also crop, add text and do some other very basic work. The finished result looks like this:

A nice little tool if you just need to capture and share something quickly.

If you find that you've got your precious photographs scattered all over the place - on Flickr, Picasa, Facebook and so on, this is an app that may appeal to you. It allows you to gather all your images together in one place to be able to display them easily and simply. They say of themselves: "Woven is a photo viewing app for smart phones, e-readers, and tablets. It gathers together your photos from a wide range of online storage services and creates a unified collection for on-the-go viewing and storytelling. Woven is free and simple to use."

This is a tool that looks rather similar to Scoop.it, in that you can create your own magazine, with words, images, videos and so on fairly easily. It would be great to use in school projects, or to document a particular event such as a holiday. It says of itself:

Upload your favorite photos from your computer, grab them from your Facebook albums - or search for ones you need using the Bing image search. You can rotate, resize and add the kind of frames and shadows that fit your needs. You can make your magazines come to life by searching and embedding your favorite Youtube videos right in the Living Junction editor.

Fotobabble

Welcome to Fotobabble - Talking Photos Very simple tool that does a good job. Upload a photograph or link to one from your Facebook account or another URL, and using your computer's microphone just record your voice saying whatever it is that you want. A brief example is one that I made earlier.

Because of its ease of use, it'll be great to use with children.

DropMocks

DropMocks could have been so much better than it is. The idea is that you simply open up some image files on your computer, drop them onto the page URL that DropMocks gives you and it then creates a nice arc of images you can display. You can see the one that I created, which are some photographs of my mother's dollshouse.

However, you can't flip images or edit them in anyway. You can't change the blurry nature of the ones in the background, and you've got very little overall control. You're limited to images less than 3Mb which is fair, but they don't tell you that, and I managed to break it by loading too many at once.

Great idea - nice and easy, but poorly executed.

Upload, resize, share photos fast and free Looks rather like twitpic or something similar. Free and simple to use.

The simple image sharer. Very simple it is too. Just upload your image and share the URL in various different formats. Don't even have to log in or register. Looks very simple. I was a bit concerned about the possibility of adult material given there's no restriction, but I looked through the browsable images and didn't see anything particularly NSFW. Actually, there were some really fun images there, and I spent longer looking at them than I should!

Kinzin

Private Photo Sharing and Print Products for Groups. Free to join and each user gets 2GB of free space which isn't ungenerous. You also get an extra 2GB of storage for every $30 you spend, and this is where Kinzin is making its money. The idea is less to use the site as a Flickr type resource, and more as one that you can use to create products with, such as trading cards, photobooks, calendars, or order prints. Unfortunately for them, I can do all of that using Flickr and the Bighugelabs site for nothing. Admittedly I've then got to print the resource out, but it's still a lot cheaper than their version, and to be honest, printed cards which are then laminated (by me) are probably going to look better anyway. 

However, if you're after something that works with a group and you want to have everything as easy as possible - it's worth looking at.
