WiseNut is No More. Gary notes that Wisenut has closed its doors for the last time. It's a shame, because it was a nice little search engine but I guess the emphasis on that is 'little'. All that Looksmart has left now from their great beginnings is Furl which I use on a regular basis and think highly of, and FindArticles, which I don't use. My major concern here is Furl, and I wonder how long it's going to be able to offer the excellent service that it does entirely for free. I won't be surprised if they introduce a premium function or if it gets sold off wholesale to someone else.
Hi Phil
thanks for pointing this out. I am a big fan of Furl too and am similarly worried about its long term shelf life. I guess it is outnumbered 100 to 1 by delicious users, yet for information retrieval purposes and as a tool to promote for librarians' use it is perfect - citation exports etc. Shame it has a pretty much non existent social aspect to it
Must remember to keep backing it up in case the time comes that I have to jump ship with 16 month's worth of links
