Oh boy, this is going to (rightly) put the cat among the pigeons. Please Rob Me is a site that's designed to point out quite clearly one of the dangers of social networking. In case you're not aware of it (though if you read Twitter you can't help but know), there's a website called Foursquare which people use to tell others where they are, what they're doing, which hotel they're staying at and so on. It's also part game, and people can unlock sections, end up being 'Mayor' of different places and so on.
On one hand, it's a great idea - find out where your friends are, meet up more easily, explore a city and so on. The problem however is that you're shouting to the rooftops - the whole world in fact - that if you're in one place, you're not in another, and that other is most likely home. Now, add to this is the fact that you can put your location into Twitter, and it's not going to take a genius to put two and two together and make lots of money out of your belongings.
Please Rob Me says of itself "The goal of this website is to raise some awareness on this issue and have people think about how they use services like Foursquare, Brightkite, Google Buzz etc. Because all this site is, is a dressed up Twitter search page (link). Everybody can get this information." They also point out that you can do exactly the same thing yourself with a simple Twitter search. To be honest, I think this site is going to come in for a huge amount of flak, but I think it's doing a good job of illustrating the dangers of just tweeting/texting without thinking. I know several people who use these services and it simply amazes me that they do. If a site as blatent as this makes people think twice, then it's doing a good job.
