HealthMash

Semantic Health Search Engine and Health Knowledge Base. Very interesting search engine which mashes together resources from a variety of sources. These include trusted Health resources, news, videos, images, drugs, clinical trials, articles, books, blogs and Twitter. Results are very clear and easy to read. I'm going to back out at this point - I'm not specialised enough to discuss the content - if any of the medical librarians who read the blog can take a look and comment, I'd be most grateful!

Interesting, but one of the "trusted health information results" was from Wikipedia on a search for caries and tooth extraction! Also seeing some commercial organizations in there, which of course you have to be very careful of in the health field. I'd say useful for a quick definition of a condition or intervention, but far from "trustable".

HealthMash brings together a lot of relevant information. A search for "spina bifida" brought back the related terms "myelomeningocele" and "spinal dysraphism", which might have been missed unless you are an expert in the field. Clicking on the plus signs in the Explore and Discover section displays many additional useful concepts for in-depth research. Clicking on the Health News tab displays the most recent reports, including one about in-utero surgery which is making headlines today.

It will take me some time to explore all the features of HealthMash, but it looks like a more focused search than the standard search engines. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
