Power of Choice - alternative search engine Well, the idea of this is quite simple. Search for something and this will give you alternatives. Consequently it's fine for concrete concepts like iphones and such like, less so for less clear cut things. I tried a search for CILIP which was amusing - the left hand side gives search results, and these included AACR2 and The Borrowers. There wasn't an alternative given, but it's possible to add in your own.
The problem with all of these resources however is 'why bother?' quickly followed up by 'what's in it for me?' This engine has tried to overcome this by offering various prizes for people who contribute the most. As a searcher however, I'd have to wonder about the accuracy of the alternatives given.
There are still plenty of similar search engines out there, and I've listed a few of them in my collection of search engines at http://www.philb.com/sitebasedinfo.htm#similar
