If there was any doubt at all that Google is an advertising company, it's completely dispelled now. I ran a search for 'mobile phones' and this is what I got back:
It's only just at the very bottom of the screen that you see the first result - from Wikipedia. The rest of the page is adverts top and right, with related searches all either stores or brands, rather than anything to help the searcher narrow their subject focus. Scanning through the results, 9 of them are brand related, while only 2 provide me with actual information about mobile phones. Now admittedly I've chosen a topic that is very commercial, but equally it can be pointed out that if I've done a search as broad as mobile phone I probably don't know what I need, so require some help and advice on choosing one - not to have a page of adverts rammed down my throat.
Yes, I know Google is amazingly powerful, and they can do what they want (and they do!), but I think it's a real shame to see them chase the $ to the extent that they are doing - after all, they're not exactly short of cash are they?
Correct Phil, I heard recently that the white house monitor those kind of unjustice in redirecting user to reliable site.
Certainly when it comes to subject of SEO (search engine optimization) in which all aspects are behind the scenes because sometime you may find a new site which started 1 month go appear in top 10!

Never mind Google, IMHO the whole web these days seems like one large billboard. Phil, have you considered something like AdBlock or something similar? I find this browser add-on indispensable.

True, Google is dedicated to the public for many years and getting stronger, and now with the demand for cellular companies and plans, this has been enlarged to 500%. This is sometimes complicated for users seeking information.
Greetings.

I noticed it since before. On top are ads that you can use to narrow the search. This is a good read, worth my time spent in reading it! Thanks for sharing!
