We've been looking at video conferencing options for our company and Google+ was one that I found quite exciting in functionality terms, but difficult to implement. The ability to share a document and work on it all at the same time whilst in the hangout is BRILLIANT - a great way of working together as a dispersed team and the functionality all seem ed to work really well when we tested it.

The big problem we cam e up against is the unwillingness of people to join ANOTHER network to use this - they often have a Facebook account to keep up with the kids, Skype for various reasons, LinkedIn and probably a few more and several of those they only have because they feel they have to, not because they want to. So asking them to set up (or just use in many cases) another account is a step too far in their eyes. There is also the problem that you have to have your document in Google Docs and be sharing it with all the people who are in the Hangout - so it does take a bit of faffing to get it set up right.

Personally I'm looking forward to being able to use it to its full potential - it could be a great tool.

Thanks Megan - I think you're absolutely right to bring this up as an issue, and it's one that drives me nuts. People all too often see the social networks as a chore - they're unable to look beyond the basics. As far as I'm concerned, it's akin to saying 'You mean I have to read *another* book?'

If people want to share information and connect with other people, they need to use a variety of different options and approaches. To simply say that they're not going to join another network just doesn't cut it in my book. But yes, it's an issue that we have to address.

"Personally I'm looking forward to being able to use it to its full potential - it could be a great tool."...Me too, Megan!

"But yes, it's an issue that we have to address."...Yes, Phil, we work in the world of information and technology. I'm sorry for the people who say: I have to read *another* book?... Yes!, not one, many!
