I've just updated my list of search engines (arranged alphabetically) and it's over the 180 mark, closing in on 200. I deleted 31 engines that have gone out of business since I last updated the page in the Autumn of last year, but I added some in as well, so the numbers are staying fairly static.
I've given a single line pen picture of each engine, so if you're looking for an alternative to try out, please do give it a whirl.
Thanks for keeping this up to date, Phil! I have no idea why this doesn't rank higher in google - most lists I get there are just spam. One thing that would be really helpful is knowing which engines have their own index vs. are just a metasearch engine. For instance, I doubt many realize that Gigablast maintains an index. Many times I just want to search across all the indexes of the web, not so much caring about the UI.
Thanks again!
Scott
