Interesting story that I picked up on - Google is not so subtly censoring its autocomplete suggestions. You know - when you start to type in a question on Google, you get some suggestions coming up to help you isolate your query.
However, if you want to know how long an average male appendage is, this is what comes up...
A Google spokesperson confirmed it in an email to Mic on Thursday. "Autocomplete predictions are produced based on a number of factors including the popularity of search terms," the spokesperson said. "We do remove offensive or inappropriate content from autocomplete predictions." Seriously Google - parts of the body are now offensive or inappropriate? Still, I suppose us blokes should be happy we got any suggestions at all, since average size vagina got no suggestions.
Breasts however are perfectly fine, inoffensive and entirely appropriate:
If you take a look at the article that I linked to, they did a bunch of other tests using words that may or may not be offensive, such as clitoris, orgasm and masturbation. Of course, Google isn't censoring the results - you can find out the average size of all manner of body parts if you complete the query, but that's not the point. The point *is* Google decides for us. Its staff decide what are rude or inappropriate words. And that pretty much sucks.
Bottom line - Google censors, all the time. Don't trust it. (Or any other search engine come to that - ask a librarian instead!)
